Cavenagh Bridge
Cavenagh bridge is the first and the oldest bridge across the Singapore River. It was built by Indian Convicts and was named at the last governor of the Straits Settlement, Cavenagh. It linked Raffles Place to City Hall, then the commercial square and the government quarters. Originally, the bridge accomodated traffic, but the heavy traffic was diverted to Anderson Bridge when it opened. The Cavenagh Bridge proved to be essential in linking the two sides of the river, replacing the traditional ferry service used to cross the river.
